We are back and YOU are the reason why.
I am excited to tell you that Make: and Maker Faire have a new future and I’d like you to be part of it.
As you may have heard, Maker Media Inc. went out of business in June 2019. Although I sincerely appreciate the investors who helped us grow, we couldn’t provide a sufficient return on their investment. I know that our mission to empower makers is valuable and important because I have seen and heard about its impact on people’s lives. Because of this, I couldn’t bear to see Make: and Maker Faire go away, so I have acquired all the assets of Maker Media and placed them in a new organization, Make Community LLC. As I reflect on the last 15 years and think about what we’ve done and who we are, the most important is how we have helped to organize and grow and shape the community of maker-minded people in our country and around the world.
We are people who share common interests, values, and a lifelong passion for making. We care for each other and our community. Maker culture celebrates creativity and innovation and welcomes everyone to become makers. Creating and empowering more makers is our mission, which we accomplish through publishing, events, learning initiatives, and advocacy. This new organization can be the champion that this community needs to prosper now and in the future.
I see Make Community as a voluntary association — an organization dedicated to serving its members. By joining, you will help protect the value of Make: and Maker Faire and ensure that we can sustain our work for future makers. Make Community will resume publishing Make: magazine and continue to manage and grow the global network of over 200 Maker Faires.
The funding we receive through memberships will contribute to support the mission and work of Make Community. It will also let us become a member-driven organization that involves its members in decision-making. I will be reporting regularly on our progress, directly to members.
Please become a charter member of Make Community (community.make.co). As both a thank-you and an acknowledgment, we will permanently publish your name as a charter member of Make Community in a newly established Members registry at community.make.co. You may also choose to remain anonymous, by opting out during registration.
